Position Summary:
The Orthopedic Surgery PA works closely with the supervising physician to coordinate a course of treatment for patients: perform histories, physical exams, order and collect lab and diagnostic studies and interpret data to formulate a diagnosis or treatment plan. The Orthopedic Surgery PA will also apply orthopedic equipment such as braces, casts and splints, will perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as aspirations and injections of joints, and will perform closed reductions of fractures and dislocations. Lastly, the Orthopedic PA will serve as a first assist in surgery to complete wound closures, will assist in the application of internal devices, and will perform any other procedures as assigned by supervising physician. This may include pre and post operative care, patient education and discharge.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in orthopedic surgery: Knowledgeable regarding an Orthopedic Surgery PA scope of practice.
- Able to perform duties as first assist in surgery.
- Demonstrated expertise in closed reduction of fractures and dislocations, surgical first assist procedures, and orthopedic equipment use and application.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
Required Experience
- Current California Physician Assistant license
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant School
- One to three (1-3) years direct patient care clinical experience.
- One to three (1-3) years of surgical first assist experience
- Evidence of continuing education and self-development to support license requirements
- Board Certification: Board certified by the National Certification Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
