Position Summary:
The Preoperative Nurse Practitioner is a key member of the anesthesia and surgical team, responsible for optimizing patient health and ensuring safe, effective surgical and procedural experiences. This NP conducts comprehensive preoperative and perioperative evaluations, develops and implements patient-centered care plans, and collaborates closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals. This role spans clinical, administrative, research, and educational settings, requiring specialized knowledge in anesthesia and surgical procedures.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in assessment, intervention and patient care management, as well as various pre-surgical protocols
- Knowledgeable regarding NP scope of practice.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal and conflict resolution abilities.
- Independent performer.
Required Experience
- Current California Nurse Practitioner license
- Current Basic Life Support Certification
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner
- Evidence of continuing education and self-development to support license requirements
- Board Certification: Board certified by the National Certification Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants/Nurse Practitioners.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with CMS’ documentation requirements to demonstrate medical necessity, DRG reimbursement and MCC and CC capture.
- Familiarity with inpatient only and outpatient only surgery lists.
- Knowledge of insurance and Medicare and Medi Cal documentation and coding requirements.
